Comedians have the power to transform its audience

Dave Chappelle has spoken about the responsibility that comes with holding the microphone, especially as a comedian. Tom Dreesen speak about comedians being spiritual healers of the soul; to hear a storyteller/comedian is to be impacted by the spirit of the speaker (almost like a preacher/priest). Garry Shandling said something similar as well that your comedic material is just a reflection of your spiritual essence at that particular point in time: "Your material is purely a vehicle for you to express your spirit. It doesn’t have any value except you expressing yourself in your soulful spiritual way. It’s why you are on this planet. When you die, your material that you've built up over decades disappears with you and that's the nature of life." Many greats have discussed how comedy can be a powerful tool to shape conversations and raise awareness about societal issues. Their views on the responsibility of comedians in using their platforms to address sensitive topics have been a central theme in many interviews and stand-up routines. What will you choose to do with your power? Will you waste it away speaking only of yourself? What kind of purpose-driven impact and change will you achieve in the minds of your audience for weeks, months and years to come?
